The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International was founded in 1922 by six nursing students at the Indiana University Training School for Nurses (now Indiana University School of Nursing in Indianapolis). The founders chose the name from the Greek words Storgé, Tharsos and Timé meaning "love," "courage" and "honor." The organization now consists of 4 separate subsidiaries: The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. Nursing Knowledge International, The International Honor Society of Nursing Building Corporation, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Foundation for Nursing. The Alpha Psi chapter is the Michigan State University Chapter of Region 10 and was founded in 1969. We support the learning and professional development of our members who strive to improve nursing care. The Alpha Psi chapter provides support for local activities including: nursing research, continuing education, and community service. Please see the "Events" page for information regarding current activites of the chapter.

Membership is open to students of nursing baccalaureate programs, nursing graduate study programs and community leaders meeting eligibility requirements..
